Confused to choose airbrush, traditional brushes or sponge or fingers.

The formula of the foundation and how your skin reacts with it determines if you'll break out or not, not the application. I like to use the beauty blender to apply my liquid foundation and a brush for powder foundation, but I know a lot of people like airbrush makeup. I would do more research on airbrush makeup and application before investing.

My friend had that airbrush makeup for her big day but the makeup was looking so heavy making her look dark too

If it looked heavy than that's due to the application.
Airbrush makeup is very very liquidy usually a medium coverage but can be easily built up in areas that need more coverage since the makeup is sorta sprayed on rather than patted on or buffed in.

I usually do a thin layer, making sure it's far enough and doesn't just cake on the makeup.
Then I'll go ahead and cover any blemishes by sort of... Spot concealing.
It's very lightweight and there are different brands and different formulations of airbrush makeup.
There's water based and there's silicone based airbrush makeup.
I believe there's even alcohol based airbrush makeup.

I think with each layer you really need to let it dry down before adding another layer. I usually only put enough to do one layer and then leave the compressor on and run it over my face since it blows air.

I find that with silicone based ones I've tried, they tend to look a tad lighter when you first put it on and then look a little darker as they dry down.
I think you really should let it dry down beforehand and if it is darker just add a couple of drops of a lighter shade with the first shade and add another thin layer which worked for me
