I need some tips on how to stop biting my natural nails and make them stronger. I have a terrible habit of biting my nails when I get bored or picking at them and they always look terrible!!

It's a behaviour issue... almost like ocd I've been dealing with it since I've had teeth... for some the bitter polishes have worked could try a rubber band around your wrist and snap it when you start biting... Sally Hansen makes some great strengthening polishes.

I find that it helps to be very conscious of it. Like if you know that you bite your nails when you're stressed, start thinking to yourself "okay, this is potentially a stressful thing, where are my hands, what am I doing with them? am I biting my nails? no, don't do that." hyperawareness is how I got over my nail biting habit almost 10 years ago.

I bite my lower lip. I've been doing it since I was in third grade and I'm 25 now. I have a crater on each side of my lower lip it's bad and I don't know anyone else who does it

I agree with Hannah, the only way I've been able to break my habit is to be very aware of what's going on with my emotions when I'm biting them, if I know I have something that's going to give me anxiety or stress me out going on like Hannah said the best thing to do is remind yourself why you don't want to be biting your nails, I work doing school cleaning In a special school (for disabled kids, so you can imagine the sort of things I have to clean) even though I have gloves on every shift I can't bring myself to want to bite my nails knowing there might be Germs under them and I hate being sick so it throws me right off lol!

I sometimes find myself picking at my nails and painting my nails stops me from biting them. I don't want that paint in my mouth and the taste of it and also I don't want to mess up my nails.

Put nail polish on. You don't want to bite on nail polish where everyday until the urge stops. If thats not enough get acrylic nails and keep getting them until the urge stops (acrylic will damage nails beds probably) Acrylic nails are really hard you can break your teeth! The nail bed is will grow back eventually but its an extreme (and expensive). This is what I did. I was a biter too it'll get better soon. The more you stress the worst it will be.

I'm super conscious of it and I still bite my nails. It's not so much nervous habit. Sometimes my nails easily break off or feel weird and I'll bite them. What helps me is to keep my nails nice and clean. I also don't keep them long (more to bite) and I tend to use like gel or no chip polish so I can't bite them as easy.

Giiiirl, I USED TO BE A FREAK WITH MY NAILS, everytime I had a test.. an appointment, a date.. I used to bite my nails since I was 8 and I tried to stop this crazy habit so many times. I decided to take care of my nails and I proposed myself that I was going to have natural longer nails, that I was going to stop buying acrylic nails forever and that I was going to stop looking at my short and bitten nails. I did my own research.. (I WAS SERIOUS ABOUT THIS, Lol I was so self conscious, every girl that I know had very cute nails!!) I purchase curticle oil and I applied it every night.. Then I started to consume 5000mg of biotin.. I tried to use gloves when doing the dishes. It's been 5 months since I stopped.. and look at them.
