I just got some money from babysitting and I've always wanted to try these two brands. What are some of your faves?

I no longer buy from jeffree but I have a lot of the liqued lipsticks and they are really good, androgeny is my favourite at the moment. I have his beauty killer palette but to be honest I've used it once, there's definitely better palettes out there.

I will not purchase Jeffree Star products, so I can't help you out there. What kinds of products are you looking at getting from Ben Nye? Powders, foundations, shadows,?

As far as Jeffree Star goes, his formula is nice, but the smell goes off super quickly (in my experience), so I'd be careful with shelling out $18 for those. I'd definitely listen to Jackie's Ben Nye recommendations (they're what she used while she was going to school, she knows all!!)

Ben Nye: Here are a few of my favorite products: Shadows, concealers and adjusters, foundations, the Fashion Rouge palette, Gold lip glaze... Ben Nye products are so reasonably priced for pro grade product. You don't have to purchase his foundations and concealers/adjusters paletted like I do, you can purchase them individually or in stacks. I built my own Ben Nye shadow palette up, and I've already hit pan on several shades. You can buy Ben Nye's empty palettes and build as you go. I also really love the Ben Nye Final Seal, and the lip liners are just as good if not better than MAC's. For $10, you get more product than what you get with a MAC lip liner and you pay less. I have yet to use a Ben Nye product that I did not like. It's a great line. :) Here's a link to camerareadycosmetics. They have the best selection of Ben Nye products around:

Ben Nye also makes the prettiest gold lip glaze. :)

@Jacqueline, have you tried the HD Matte foundation from Ben Nye?
I've been wanting to try more of the foundations but wasn't too sure, plus I'm not even familiar with the color system.
And that lip glaze looks GORG, definitely going to have to add that to the cart too :D

I love Androgyny by Jeffree and the Skin Frosts are gorgeous even though I don't have any of his makeup. also I didn't know that Ben Nye did actual makeup. My knowledge of Ben Nye is costume makeup.

I love celebrity skin, androdgyny, Gemini, and rose matter. For skin frost ice cold & lavender snow. I got my order for lavender snow yesterday and it's the bomb 😍

Aurora, I have tried the HD matte foundation. Great for oily skin, nicely pigmented and surprisingly lightweight. Finish wise, I wouldn't say that it has a very traditional flat powder matte finish to it. It's similar to RCMA in the sense that it is pigmented enough to be used as both a medium to full coverage foundation and concealer. It isn't as 'skin' like as RCMA, but if one is looking for options outside RCMA and a more demi-matte finish this is a good one. There's not a lot of slip with this foundation, and like RCMA, it would be unwise to go from tin to skin. I apply it just like RCMA.

Shade wise... As you have seen this range is huge. If you are interested in trying it, I would start with The Shinsei (SH) range. These shades are the closest to the RCMA Shinto series: Golden warm undertones. The Natural Olive (NO) range would be the closest to the RCMA KO shades. If anyone wants to try this foundation and is in the Olive range in RCMA, the Radiant Olive (RO) shades would be your best bet; however, the RO shades in this range aren't quite as pink-y as the RCMA Olive range is; however, it is workable. 'Some' of the Olive Beige shades do come pretty close to MAC NW shades. A neutral range in this lineup would be the Cine Series (CT).

Jacqueline, it sounds perfect. I'm definitely going to end up getting it now, I've been on the fence about it for a bit cause I find most "HD" foundations seem to work better on normal to even dry skin.
Would you say the SH-3 in the Ben Nye is close to the SH-3 in the RCMA?

Aug 17, 2016

Jacqueline H.

I don't have the SH 3 in the Ben Nye, but from memory, I would have to say that SH 3 in the Ben Nye is closer to Shinto 2 in RCMA. The SH 4 would be closer to Shinto 3 in RCMA.

Wow thank you so so much this is so helpful!

Also Ben Nye came out with a new rose powder like the banana powder. I heard that rose water can adjust the skin or something.

Jacqueline, I totally spaced out, I actually meant Shinto 2, I don't know why I said Shinto 3, I'll definitely just get Shinsei 3 since it does look quite close to Shinto 2, thank you! :)

You're welcome Aurora. :) If you are going to buy from Cameraready, it wouldn't hurt to ask them what they think of the match. I'm only going from memory on that particular Ben Nye SH series, and I don't want you to spend your money and be disappointed. :( The more opinions the better.  ;)

You're welcome Katie. Are you talking about the Rose Petal powder?
