To become a makeup artist at sephora you need to apply makeup to prove you have the skill...

Is it for the sephora certified position or just a color position? From my experience (This was a few years back so things could have changed) they mainly focused on how I interacted with the 'client'. Did I explain what I was doing as I was going along? Was I friendly? Was I knowledgeable about the products I was using? Stuff like that. Sephora's hiring process really focuses more on customer service skills rather than the artistry in my opinion. You have to keep in mind that at the end of the day it's a sales position. They want to see that you can sell the products that you are using on your client.

They're definitely going to look at your interaction with the client during the demo and how you sell the products you apply. As long as you focus on that as well maybe add in tips and tricks and ask the client if they, "learned something new?" You'll pass with flying colors! One of Sephora's biggest focuses is teaching clients something new. If you add that in I'm sure they'll be very impressed :)

Think of it as a roleplaying experience; they'll be looking at your artistry but most importantly they'll be looking for your interaction. They'll be looking to see how you gage the client's needs/wants and your listening skills, how you present the benefits/features of the product and sharing your knowledge as you go even if it's something as simple as saying to stop and look at the process from far away/up close.
