My hair is long, about right above my waist. But I wish it grew longer. I dyed it ombre about a year ago. My hair is naturally wavy, but after I dyed my hair it turned straight with a bit of a wave. Anyway, these days my hair is becoming more wavy. But unlike my old naturally soft, voluminous waves they are dry, brittle and flat. Also my hair has not grown at ALL. Less than an inch for a whole year. I have tried to use deep conditioning hair masks and leave-in conditioner along with keratin and they all wear off quickly. I have also tried to blow out my hair for volume but it grows flat in a matter of minutes. I am all about home remedies for hair masks and such to use on my hair. Does anybody have tips on how to get my old hair back? And any tips on how to grow longer hair? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Are you erring regular trims? Your hair isn't going to grow if you're not cutting off the split ends since they'll just continue up the hair shaft.

Aleexia is right, also try the Aussie 3 min treatment, or l'oreal.

If you put instant coffee in with your regular shampoo it helps. Also gas station espresso shots...

Patty-I get trims every six weeks and it has no growth. It just stops right where it is.
Hailey-The ombre has not been cut off because I like the look of it sort of faded away and it starts sort of near my roots and I don't want it to be that short. I get regular trims. And I actually didn't bleach my hair. The type of dye my hairstylist used apparently had no bleach in it.
Sparkel-Thanks. I will have to try that

My mom had bangs she hated we did his and they grew out in less than two weeks.

If your hair is naturally dark, there is always some degree of pigment removal that must occur in order for a permanent dye to really hold onto the hair shaft. A lot of those "bleach free" dyes really just incorporate the bleach into the dye, so that it lifts the natural color of your hair at the same time it's depositing the new color, which sounds counterintuitive but ends up working in one step.
When you lighten naturally dark hair, you are actually removing physical substance from your hair, making it harder for it to hold onto moisture, and naturally more brittle. This permanently alters the molecular structure of the hair shaft; there's little you can do to permanently remedy the situation aside from chopping off the affected part of your hair.
I used to excessively heat style my hair. I had to completely abandon my ironing tools and only use minimal blow drying for more than a year, all while getting trims every two months before my hair growth seemed normal again.

Sparkel-Oh wow, I really do have to try that!
Leuca-Alright, thank you. That was great information to give me

If you want your hair to grow, try biotin. It's a daily pill. Also look for shampoos and conditioners that are made for growing hair. My favorite is the get up and grow by not your mothers hair. For the dryness, if you want to go that route, the Moroccan Argan oil brand is amazing. They have sooo many options and it's all natural. I love reading all the different descriptions on each bottle.

I agree with Hailey here. Be careful about starting a supplement regimen; you may not need it and it could actually make things worse if that's the case.
The plus side of cutting a lot of hair off is that the healthier hair you have will be much easier to manage, so you'll be able to do more with it style wise! Think of the options you'll be gaining rather than the hair you're cutting off. It also might be worth it to talk to a stylist you trust to work out the fine details of what you want to be able to do after the cut.

Coconut oil! Both applied directly on hair, and ingested- works wonders for me! Sometimes I saturate entire head, put on a shower cap and blow dry for a minute or so to heat it up. Other times I'll just leave it on as an overnight mask!

Okay Jess. That seems great. Do you have to rinse in the morning or wash it or anything?
