Recently I've just started to get into highlighting and contouring but I don't know what to buy or even what brushes to use honestly. I need help! 😩

Personally I contour with the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder (really that's the only thing you need to contour with, it's the perfect shade and looks very natural) with the Morohe E8 and I highlight with the NYX Illuminator in Ritualistic (I'm getting another highlighter soon, though) with the Real Techniques Fan Brush. I also use a concealer a shade or two lighter than my foundation to highlight as well and I either use the NYX HD Concealer or the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.

You can literally use almost anything to contour and highlight! most of my everyday contour and highlighting products are drug store and extremely affordable, as well as my brushes. try out the wet n wild contour palette. it's extremely inexpensive and works great, even Kathleen Lights (YouTube Beauty Guru) loves it. Also ELF has stepped up their game, I use the studio elf palettes for everyday makeup too. I think they'll be a great starter contour kit. As for brushes I just use a regular medium sized blush brush to apply my contour. I start off with little color and slowly build up until I'm satisfied with my contour 😁

A good beginner brush for highlighting the cheeks/forehead/chin is the Real Techniques Setting Brush. In terms of entry level highlighting products I had good results with the NYX Illuminators, but at this point I'm convinced that the best highlighters are high end, just from trying so many and experiencing the ease of blending/application with good tools.
Right now I'm hooked on Anastasia's highlighters, both in the individuals and her glow kits, which all have different formulas but perform really well. Remember that less is more; always build up to the desired intensity rather than starting strong, and you can always go back with another brush with a silky ,colorless/color neutral powder and buff it out to make it look more natural.

Also the pic jeanna provided is a uniform way of highlighting you will get way better results by 1st learning your face shape and figuring out what you would like to bring forward on your face because essentially that's what highlighting an area does.
