I am interested to know what's your holy grail primer|foundation and why? Also please mention your skin type.

Skin type: combination|acne prone
-I currently do not have a holy grail foundation which I am trying to find one but as of right now my holy grail primer is Becca backlight primer. It gives such a beautiful finish with foundation. Sometimes I apply it to my face then foundation and sometimes I mix it in my foundation.

I have very dry, textured skin with some melasma patches. I love the Smashbox Oil Primer for extra moisture and skin smoothing. I've never had any problems with my makeup fading or breaking down, so I don't know if this primer prolongs the wear of makeup. But I know it doesn't break it down. I don't have one favorite foundation. I will alternate or mix the foundations I have in rotation. Loreal Lumi, Loreal Infallible Pro Glow, Born this Way & Marc Jacobs Remarcable.

I have combination and acne prone skin as well. I don't really like full coverage, I like the more natural look so the naked skin foundation is my holy grail. but I haven't found a primer that I really love. I use the rimmel stay matte primer and it works just fine but I'm not in love with it. I am always reluctant to buy high end products unless it's an eyeshadows palette or foundation since I am an broke college student so I heavily rely on drugstore products most of the time

Marleen, I was thinking that the Smashbox oil primer breaks apart the foundation but I'm glad it doesn't. How do you like the Marc Jacobs foundation? Does it feel heavy once applied and throughout the day?

Kiara, I prefer a natural look as well. It's so hard to find my color in the naked skin foundation 😞 and I understand what you're saying about drugstore products.

I was thinking about purchasing the Becca poreless matte primer but I'd rather have reviews before purchasing. I may take a trip to Sephora to get samples. It's 45 mins away so procrastinating lol

Phylicia, the MJ doesn't feel heavy, on the contrary, it's actually very lightweight. But, it is a little drying on my already dry skin. It goes on well, and looks smooth & beautiful, but after a couple hrs, it seems to suck out all my skin's natural oils, then feels tight on my skin. So I either mix it in with my Lumi or Infallible or I use it straight as a spot concealer.

I have oily acne prone skin, with redness on my cheeks. My holy grail primer is the Hourglass mineral veil. Gives me a good 8 hours of keeping foundation/bb cream stay put! And it has a great texture when you apply it.
Holy grail foundation is the Hourglass immaculate liquid powder foundation. Full coverage and stays on without being cakey. Also love the NYX bb cream and the Maybelline dream pure bb cream. Both work great with the Hourglass primer, I don't have an issue with any of these breaking me out. And the Maybelline one has Salicylic acid in it,its supposed to help keep acne away :)

My HG primer is macs prep + prime and my HG foundation is kvd lock it foundation and powder, I've tried many combos over the years and this one is the best for my oily skin, I only use a pea sized amount of liquid foundation mixed with a drop of macs luster drops in pink rebel, and apply it with a damp beauty blender, I use the powder foundation very last after all my other face products with a Brush at the moment it's ud good karma brush (:

I have oily and very fair skin. I get acne a lot and I have a habit of popping my pimples and making my skin look worse than it is. I love the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation soooo much. I use the lightest shade they have, Alabaster Y205, and honestly, it does SUCH a good job at covering my acne and blemishes. I find that often I don't even need a primer with it because it does so well by itself. If I had to choose a primer though, it's definitely the Make Up For Ever Primer. I can't remember which one it is (I can't go check rn), but I'm fairly sure it's the one that goes with the foundation I mentioned.

I have normal to dry skin that can be sensitive. I don't always use primer; I rely on my skincare products. Ole Henriksen Truth Revealed Serum, La Roche Posay Anthelios sunscreen (so lightweight) and Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation moisturizer. If I use primer, it's Becca Backlight to give me a more luminous effect. Or I will use MAC Strobe cream in lieu of my moisturizer.
HG foundations: MAC WaterWeight for sheer coverage, UD Naked for medium coverage, Too Faced Born This Way for full coverage.

I have very oily skin and really like the Smashbox PhotoFinish Light which is the water based one.
The original one worked good but I found it worked better for more normal to slightly oily skin or if I wanted to wear a powder foundation since silicone base helps the powder glide on better.

As far as foundation. I have two holy grail foundation.

MAC Studio Fix Powder and the Studio Fix Fluid.
The Studio Fix powder is great, gives a light/medium-buildable coverage and I LOVE the shade range.
The formula has a type of silicone in it which helps it glide on a little better and it doesn't look super powdery so it's fairly versatile in the sense that you don't HAVE to be oily to use it.

Now, the studio fix fluid is great because it offers more coverage, great oil control and you only need a small amount of product plus it really smooths out my pores without needing a pore minimizing primer underneath

Thank you everyone that replied. It's interesting to hear others favorite foundation/primers & skin types and how your favorite products work well with your skin type.
