Should I go darker?

So I heard to make your hair look thicker, dying your hair darker will help. I naturally have dark brown/black hair. I dyed it last year to a light brown balyage but it faded out and I cut the majority of it off. Do you think I should go darker? My hair is naturally dark anyway.
