I am a natural redhead and totally new to dying my hair. I decided to start after I began to go grey. I was excited when the dye job came out very natural and did cover my grey. All seemed good, but then I washed my hair for the first time, and all these greys came back. I use neutrogena anti residue shampoo. I need to because I use lots of hair product. I called that company and they said the shampoo is colour safe. I also only wash my hair once per week. I also went to a professional to dye it. It was at a hair school, but a hairdresser of twenty years experience supervised my dye job. What went wrong, and what should I do? Help! I am worried more and more grey will show through each wash.

I think you should ask the hairdresser how long does the color usually last. I use a professional hair color, and I have to retouch my roots every two weeks. Also I think you should use a clarifying shampoo that doesn't contain any sulfates. I checked your shampoo's ingredients and it contains sulfates. Red hair color is a hard color to maintain and if you use a sulfate shampoo it will last even less.
