You should go to a salon and ask for a toner, so it won't ruin your hair and you'll still be able to go back to light if you choose too in the nearby future. A toner doesn't fully lift the cuticle of the hair strand, so it will slowly wash out over a couple months, but you also won't get a distinct line of demarcation when your roots grow in. A toner also is not as expensive as a all over color. Hope I helped!!

You could do it yourself, I have and it turned out fine! but of course the better option is always going to a professional.

I mean you can always do it yourself, but I would never recommend a permanent dye if you want to go black. Especially if you're one to change your hair all the time, because come summer, if you're feeling the warm weather and want to go light again, it's going to be way harder for who ever is doing it to make it look good then if you use a Demi permanent or a semi permanent. And like I said before, if you don't do a permanent dye, you won't get that harsh line of demarcation when your hair starts to grow. And if you're going to get your hair done, might as well get a good head massage at the bowl and a fantastic blow out 😊

Thank you so much ladies! I agree with you all that I should just go to a professional

You can use a semi permanent dye to deposit color to your hair, if you use permanent dye it might turn green.

I just want to issue a small warning about going black. My hair is naturally dark brown and has been dyed a variety of shades over the years, from orangey red to deep plum. About 7 years ago I started losing a considerable amount of hair (I've discussed it in several threads here) and began wearing extensions to cover the bald spots. I had to buy black extensions because the next lighter brown shade was way too light for me (in a brand I could afford). So I just dyed my already dark brown hair to jet black to match. And I've been trapped in a cycle of black hair ever since.
Now my hair is extremely long and I'm trying to get it back to my natural dark brown. And it hasn't been easy, let me tell you. I dye my own hair at home, I don't go to a salon. So I have to do it verrrry gradually and with enough subtlety that it isn't noticeable. If I ever wanted to go direct from black to a lighter shade, I'd have to see a professional and have the years of dye stripped and then have a new color laid on top, which is a multi-step process that can't be done in one day and can also be extremely damaging to the hair.
My point is just to make absolutely sure that black is 100% what you want before committing to it and that if you want to go back to a lighter shade in the future, it's either going to be costly or time consuming.
Either way, I'm sure you'll look gorgeous no matter what! Good luck!
