So I have one of those horribly painful pimples again around my nose. And I'm talking so painful that every time I wiggle my nose/sniffle it feels like I got punched in the face lol.

I'm trying to calm it down with tea tree oil, but I'm open to new suggestions.

But I'm dying to know, how are these caused? What makes them soooo incredibly painful 😫

I know how you feel, I don't know how to help you, as the suggestion I would give you is tea tree😆I have the same question!!

Are they far under the surface of the skin?

I would say no because whenever I get these they come to a head with a whitehead in a few days.

I'd advise maybe using some ice like Meg suggested. The ice has properties in it that will reduce inflammation you'll still be a little red but it helps a bit using it on and off and wrap it with a cloth or a paper towel because the skin around your nose and eyes is pretty thin and you don't want to burst any blood vessels. Also, I'd suggest a mask as well, like an oatmeal mask or something that has calming properties.

As for what's causing it try switching things up like how you wash your face, and even pay attention to what you're eating, a lot of foods that are oily or have high sugar content can cause you to break out easily.

It sounds like a skincare issue to me.

I would actually avoid using ice. The cold may cause your blood vessels to contract causing immediate decrease of redness/visual inflammation but extreme temperatures can trigger oil production and irritation later on.

Are you currently using a salicylic acid/benzoyl peroxide product?

I just purchased the Mario bedescu acne facial wash with salycic acid in it yesterday however I haven't opened it yesterday. I have a 5% benzoyl spot treatment from my derm!

I suggest not to use ice, toothpaste, or any food and things that are not for the skin. I would put you spot treatment when you are suppose to maybe wait a week because it can take a while for treatment to really start and depending on if it is under the skin or not will depend on how long it will take for the spot treatment to work. After sometime if you have been using the spot treatment and it gets worse or stays the same I would go back to your dermatologist.

As an FYI you don't need an expensive cleanser with salicylic acid because it's likely not at the correct PH for the ingredient to function properly and even if it was, you're rinsing it off within a minute or so of application. Chemical exfoliants should ideally be left on.
