Septum piercing tips?!

So I'm planning on getting a septum piercing very soon, but I have a few questions, I want a small one is there names for different types of piercings rings? And how bad does it hurt I have a pretty low pain tolerance so I don't want to be surprised if it hurts a lot, also what is the healing process? Is there any tips you guys have? Thanks!

Hi Alex. The rings aren't named differently but they do vary in size and thickness. You will be fitted initially with a larger ring to account for swelling but once that has gone down you can get a smaller ring. in terms of thickness you would normally be fitted with a 1.6mm. if you desire the thicker ring you will have to gradually stretch the hole by buying thicker rings to get what you desire. as it's a cartilage it can take 6-8 months to heal. you need to clean it about 6 times a day with a saline solution. Unfortunately they don't normally numb the area so I'm guessing it's going to hurt. I wouldn't advise getting drunk before hand because alcohol thins the blood. maybe one to calm your nerves x

Septum piercings are painful. I have been pierced many times, and out of all my piercings it hurt the most. I recommend you get a 16 gauge piercing if you want it to be a little on the dainty side. Mine healed quickly with no issues, but everyone is different so ask your piercer for a rundown of what to do, especially if this is your first body/facial piercing. And honestly, even though it was painful, the pain is temporary. Enjoy your new piercing if you go through with it.

There are segment bars and horseshoe bars that you can wear in your septum, I'm pretty sure I had a 16g in mine and it was just a small horseshoe ring, nice and dainty when I first got it pierced. If you don't know whether you want to wear it up or down for the first couple of weeks for healing I'd recommend having your piercer tucking it up for that first couple of weeks because I ended up deciding I'd have it out, tried to tuck it up myself the first day and it just stung and made my eyes water, hurt more then getting the initial piercing lol and I ended up going back and having her tuck it up! For me the pain wasn't anything, it did bleed (only piercing I've had that's ever bled when being pierced) so keep that in mind, however it didn't hurt at all I remember asking my piercer if she was already finished haha! The clamps are the most uncomfortable part. Just be careful not to bump it on anything and when you're cleaning it twice daily is plenty, over cleaning will prolong the healing and dry your piercing out. I recommend cleaning it with saline solution :) I make my own, all you need is rock salt/sea salt, make sure it's non iodised and mix a spoon of that with a cup of warm water, let the salt dissolve and clean it with that.
