I use the nivea men's aftershave balm as a primer, and use a beauty blender with my Giorgio Armani luminous skin foundation and naked skin concealer. I lightly set with the maybelline fit me powder and an UD setting spray. I would've thought that this would give me a dewy base but my makeup looks cakey and doesn't sit well on my face? Any help ladies?

If your setting with a spray why do you set with powder also? I use to do the same thing and I've bin cutting back on the powder part and just using my fix plus by mac and even it outwith my beauty blender and it makes my lancome idol teint foundation a vwry pretty almost dewy finish when its a matte foundation.

You should use Mac Fix Plus if you want to learn how to use it so the makeup doesn't look cakey you can definitely check out my channel I use it almost in all of my recent makeup tutorials.

I moisturise with a lush facial moisturiser before my makeup, and I use the powder under my eyes mainly because I get awful creasing! 😭 I use two pumps at most when doing my makeup, I didn't realise it made a difference?

Do you have oily skin? If you don't then skip the powder. I just recently stopped setting my makeup with powder and my makeup looks so much better! But if you do have oily skin then buff the powder into your skin in small circles instead of just pressing the powder on.

I think because of how cold it's gotten in England my skin must be drying out? I didn't notice before but that could be a factor. As for how it's sitting on my skin, it looks heavy but I can see pores clearly? I'll try skipping my powder tomorrow morning and use a brush instead, try to switch it up and see how that changes things! Thanks so much for all the fantastic advice! 💕

Do you watch Kathleen Lights? All the products sound just like her!! Lmao. Anyways, sometimes I have problems with this too. My foundation just doesn't look GOOD. I highly recommend exfoliating your face and making sure it's hydrated. I swear by putting coconut oil allll over my face, steaming my face, (by taking a hot shower or putting a hot washcloth over your face for a few minutes). I gently wipe off excess with the warm rag and then dry my face. I swear this makes my makeup go on smoother. I also combine my foundation with a drop or two of Argon oil. This makes all my foundations look ten times better and more natural. Firstly, are you applying a foundation that works well with your skin? Secondly, are you applying too much? Try applying it in thinner layers, (what I do) and then add more as needed. I also sometimes take a break after I've applied SOME foundation. The application process can redden your face because of touching it. You apply more makeup that you don't really need. I like to let my face settle while I do my eyes, then see if I need another layer. I would also avoid putting powder all over your face, especially if you use a setting spray. I put powder just under my eyes, and block that section while I spray. Also keep in mind that if you are using a powder bronzer, blush, and highlight, you are applying more power. I never put face powder on those areas because of that. To get a dewy finish I like to mix a liquid highlighter into my foundation as well, but I only do that OR the oil. It looks nice with both, but takes away a lot of coverage. Hope this helps😊😊

Hi Emma! I am going through the exact thing right now it is so awful! I have a consultation with a no 7 consultant at boots on Thursday but I think it's the Nivea shave balm has caused an imbalance it's getting a little better since I stopped using it. I thought it was my foundation but since tried lots of different ones and none are sitting right on my skin. It's a mess can't wait to hear what she says on Thursday.
