I have horribly dry skin. It's very sensitive, so chemical exfoliants usually are way too harsh and burn the hell out of my face. Not fun.

My face is so dry in places that it gets flakey and I can't wear ANY makeup over it in those places. I moisturize, I exfoliate, I cleanse, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Sigh, I need something that will help!

I was thinking maybe microdermabrasion, I'm open to the idea of getting something done.

Thank you in advance for the help!

I've been using an oil cleanser for daily cleansing and that's helped me a lot with dryness and flaking.

Ever since starting Accutane my skin has been really dry but using products for dry skin has really helped.
First I take my makeup off with a cleansing oil from Neutrogena, then I wash my face with a moisturizing cleanser bar from Cerave, and then I moisturize with the Cerave moisturizing cream. When I feel flakey I exfoliate or use my clarisonic, making sure not to over exfoliate because it can lead to more dryness and it irritates my sensitive skin.
You can also use sheet masks or hydrating masks to help.

I use an olive oil face mask then finish off with Ponds moisturizing cream.

Oil, oil and more oil. I use oil-based cleansers (Garnier makes an excellent one that is not expensive), the use a facial oil afterwards. There are loads of very expensive ones that are great or you could just pick up some Argan oil. Once it's absorbed you will still need to moisturize with a very rich night cream. For day, smashbox oil primer is amazing, but if it's too pricy you could use the same Argan oil in the morning and a creamy foundation. For people with super dry skin, exfoliating just damages the skin more and causes more flaking and dryness. You just need to pile on the moisture.

You need to address the type of products you're using. Cleansing & moisterizing with just anything is not enough. You need the proper products and each product is important.
Cleanser
Toner (if any)
Exfoliant (if any)
Moisterizer
Treatment products such as acne products.
Primer (if any)
Foundation (if any).
Also the frequency of usage is also important.
Exfoliation should not be done too often (depending on the type you're using)
And drying products such as retin-a and acne topical should not be over used, application or frequency.

Never wash your face with hot water, only lukewarm or cold. Use hydrating cleansers, not ones that totally strip the skin. Cream cleansers are nice. Sometimes letting the skin get very flaky and dry over a couple days and then exfoliating it all off in a warm shower with a damp cloth/soft towel is better for your skin. After washing your face, don't towel off all the water on your skin. Leave a little bit of water on your skin and while it is a bit damp, use a thick moisturizer like yh3 cetaphil cream in a tub.

I make my own - aloe vera juice or gel (I have my own plants) you should be able to buy on amazon and I mix it with 1 teaspoon of rice powder, and then use my Monsia Sonic 3 set on sensitive, once a week.
