Unfortunately other than using sunscreen and cutting back on sun exposure to prevent them, or laser treatment, there's no way (at least that I've found) to completely get rid of them.
You can have radiant skin and freckles though, maybe try a luminous primer or foundation to cover the freckles, or use a purple tinted primer to combat the dullness. A brightening serum or mask would help as well :)

I used to have freckles until I used brightening creams and stayed out of the sun.
Even to this day, I don't step out into direct sunlight.

I make sure to exfoliate every few days, I would suggest one of the microdermabrasion types of exfoliating products. Boots has two I believe.

Then I would use something like retinol, AHAs or brightening ingredients like Kojic acid, glutathione, licorice root extract, vitamin C, arbutin etc.it depends on your own skin what would work best for you.
I personally used Kojic acid soap for awhile and it worked but now I just use tretinoin gel.

Then, everyday make sure you're wearing sunscreen. I used a physical/mineral sunscreen. I believe I was using the Neutrogena sensitive skin SPF60 skin sunscreen which used a mixture of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which I felt actually prevented my skin from getting a tan.
Whenever I used sunscreens that only had chemical sunscreen ingredients (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octinoxate)
I would still get a tan and freckles.
I don't know if they still sell that sunscreen but I've read using a sunscreen with a mixture of both chemical and physical/mineral sunscreen is a good option.

As far as makeup, I would suggest trying to get an airbrush compressor and some airbrush makeup.
I think the temptu airbrush compressor worked pretty good but I used it with the MAC airbrush makeup.
Although, quite a few brands have airbrush makeup.
It's quite lightweight and you can really layer the makeup to cover freckles without so much cakiness.
There are also different airbrush makeup bases.
Water, silicone and alcohol.
I prefer the look of silicone but I prefer the feel of water based airbrush makeup.

Depending on what color your freckles are, you could try an color-correct it with a primer or color-corrector. Mine were a brown shade but I've seen some lean more orangey or pinkish.
If they're just brown try using a peach or salmon color.
If they'd orangish, use a bluish shade.
If they're pink use green.
Color-correcting orange or pink freckles can result in an ashy looking face due to the neutralization of the warmth so when you use a foundation you may need to get one that's a tad Warmer unless you're neutral undertoned yourself.

You're welcome :) what sunscreen are you using? I would suggest neutrogena since they have their "dry touch" range which doesn't leave an oily residue. Sunscreen usually needs to be applied 15 minutes prior to direct sunlight so just make sure you let it set in.
As far as foundation the L'orèal True Match Super Blendable liquid foundation is pretty good. It's a medium coverage and quite liquidy but it is buildable and pretty good for oily skin.
It's oil-free and there are lots of shade plus it has SPF17 with a physical/mineral sunscreen.

If you want a bit more higher end foundation I like the MAC Studio Fix Fluid, it has great coverage and you really don't need much plus it works great for oily skin.

As for primer, I HIGHLY suggest the Smashbox Photo Finish Light. It works great for oily skin and doesn't have that silicone base like the original and it actually helps mattify the face and prolong the wear of foundation better than the silicone based ones I've come across
