Any hair color ideas????

So for years I have been coloring my hair red and left the bottom black and recently I have let the color completely fade back to almost all black. I saw a picture of a dark purple hair but I am not sure if it will look good on me and every one has said that my hair looks good red but I have reached a road block on what to do. I would love to hear your ideas, advice, or get pictures since I am kindof stuck please please please help
