No matter how much I exfoliate, no matter how much I moisturize and condition, my lips still VERY quickly get cracked with and without lipstick. When I wear lipstick I get this little white film in the corners of my mouth and its just.. Disgusting.. And makes it hard to wear a lipstick! Yes, I do moisturize lightly before lipstick and exfoliate regularly. I use carmex and blistex at night and blistex under lipstick. Are my lips deformed.. Or does anyone else have the same problem???

Ugh this happens to me too... I try to keep a Chapstick handy when I can... But there are times when I can't either... I feel your pain... :/ right down to the white film... The film started going away when I switched from using tooth paste to using baking soda mixed with a TINY bit of oil (JUST enough to make it a gel) it tastes bad, but works wonders, and rubbing it in my lips helped that too... Also perhaps you're exfoliating TOO regularly? You might be being hard on your lips... Every four days is probably enough if you're doing it more than that I'd go easy on your lips :) also try some Burt's Bees Chapstick its all natural and uses properties from beeswax that people have been using for thousands of years for many purposes its what's worked the best for me, and it feels just so lovely, cool, and nice too! :) I hope that helped! :)

You may not be drinking enough water. The white at the corner of your mouth sounds like a sign of mild dehydration. 30% of Americans are dehydrated to some degree everyday and don't even know it. If you start drinking more water your lips will be more likely to retain the moisturizing products you are applying. If the problem is within then nothing you put on top will help.

Oh thank you so much!!! What do you do when you wear lipstick, anything different to prevent the film?

I don't do anything different really... And Marcy J. Is right about the hydration too, but I confess to being dehydrated often and I was able to make it go away with the tooth paste change XD I don't do anything different for wearing lipstick because for me part if the problem was a bacteria in my mouth...that shouldn't be there. Nothing serious, just kinda gross... The toothpaste change cleared it though and the Burt's bees made my lips smooth (and seriously I love wearing their Chapstick just cause it feels so GREAT I don't have to remind myself to put it on :)

You should exploiate with olive oil and sugar . My trick is too brush my lips with a tooth brush so you don't get lines also apply vasaline so it goes on smoother but drink lots of water!!

I would also stop using Carmex, I was addicted to it once too but the company puts the itty bittist pieces of glass in the formula so your lips will continue to need the product! Something i swear by now is Baby Lips by maybelline, they have tinted ones and clear ones. Youll never want to use anything else!

i find drinking tons of water helps me. but also, a good lip chap will make the difference. Some lip chaps seem to make mine worse! I like Blistex (the pots... specifically the blue medicated one) and also Burt's Bee's.

Well here is a routine I follow that you can try: make yourself a lip scrub ( you can defiantly find a how to video on that either on here or YouTube) then every time you want to put lipstick on use the lip scrub then any one of ur fav Chapstick. I use baby lips. I also do this routine every other morning or night, but if I really need to use the lip scrub everyday once a day I do. ( especially during the winter.) Good luck! Hope this helps:) and if you try it I hope it works!

I have the same problem, I think I'm going to get a prescription for a lip cream, but first I heard of getting hydrocortisone cream and putting that on lips, and also try lanolin, mothers use it for their nipples , when they Brest feed.

I am in the same boat as you. What I find works well is exfoliating like crazy right before bed then putting a thick layer of Neosporin on my lips when I go to sleep. It works very well, but it doesn't entirely fix the problem which sucks. My favorite chapstick of the moment though is the Nivea Olive Oil and Lemon. It sounds and looks horrible but trust me it smells and feels like heaven on your lips

I use a lip balm from an etsy store. It's saved my lips! It's made of coconut and almond oil with cocoa butter. Here's the link. I hope this helps.

Thank you Alli Rose!
I do exfoliate, and that helps but only for a couple hours or so ;/ My lips are a little better now that I have started to apply GENEROUS amounts of lip balm at night time. Glad I'm not the only one, it sucks not to wear lipstick!!

Moisturize your lips A LOT. When you're at home alone, put on Chapstick every few minutes. I'm in marching band and applying a lot of Chapstick every few minutes helps your lips become less cracked. I like the eos Chapstick (:.

Heaps of Vaseline before bedtime helps me

If you use a petroleum based product, a wax product (think Chapstick, Burt's bees, Vaseline) it only prevents your lips from losing moisture by creating a barrier. They do very little to moisturizer. You want a balm that actually lists moisture rich ingredients. Also, chronic dry lips can be a sign of an oral infection, like mild candidiasis.
