I don't think there's really a right or wrong way to do it. As long as it helps alleviate some of your stress, you're doing what you need to do. I like to sit in a quiet room or occasionally have some calming music playing. Take deep breaths and really concentrate on your breathing. My old meditation group leader used to tell us to focus on taking all of the beauty and good in the universe in with each breath, holding it and letting the good flow through our bodies, and then releasing it back to the universe. Our group always met for an hour and a half but I don't think you need to do it for that long every time. Hope this helps, good luck!

Try reading Gabrielle bernstein's may cause miracles. I just ordered my copy last week! She has a meditation cd you can get to go with it but I think the book is a must.

Depends. Different people mean different things when they say meditation. For instance, when you see the word "meditation" in a Christian context, what it means is to focus on a specific thought and fill your mind with it. In a Buddhist sense they mean more emptying your mind of thought. Pick whatever option you think is more relaxing.

For Buddhist style meditation, focus on your breathing and NOTHING else. Try to be present in the moment and when you find your mind wandering away from the sound of your breath, just reign it back in and pull away from the thought, like watching a soap bubble pop. Go back to listening to yourself breathe. It takes practice and it can be a little frustrating at first because you'll end up thinking about other stuff a lot.
