Hi ladies! I've been really wanting to get a cartilage piercing like the one in the photo but I've heard negative things about it such as the long healing process and how it's prone to infection. Please tell me your experiences and opinions and whether it is worth it or not. I'm definitely planning to get it done at a local tattoo shop with a needle after hearing that a gun can shatter the cartilage. Also, I have really sensitive ears. I can't wear fake earrings for a long time since they make my ears itchy and infected. This is really the only thing that's stopping me from getting my cartilage pierced. Please tell me how you took care of your piercing as well. Thank you so much! :)

Thank you so much! At first I honestly just wanted to go to Claire's and get it done because I just couldn't wait but after hearing what happens with a gun I'm definitely reconsidering haha.

I had mine done with the gun method and I had trouble with it healing, for a year I couldn't sleep on that side, but it gets tender there now if I haven't had an stud in for a while. more annoying than what it's worth in my opinion :^/

Oh yeah - I used witch hazel twice a day with cotton wool.

I got it done with a needle three times because I didn't know about getting it done with a needle and they just wouldn't heal and eventually I got it done with a needle and it was so much better. It took a while to heal but after a week or two I could sleep on it and when I got it done with a gun I couldn't sleep on it for a couple of months. I used a combination of diluted tea tree oil and saline solution to clean mine.

I had it done with a needle and I would say my heal time wasn't too bad however it is a really tender spot to pierce. It will hurt for a week and you won't be able to sleep on that side for a while. Also if it gets infected that can damage your whole ear cartilage and cause cartilage failure (don't know English name) where all the cartilage breaks down and you have screwed up ears forever.
I'd definitely say do it but be careful with it.

I had mine done with a needle and out of all 6 of my piercings it was definitely the worst for healing. I found I kept catching it and hitting it on things and it was so painful. The only thing that worked for me was switching the earring they pierced it with for a ring because it gave it room to swell without the pressure. I love it but it's definitely a long healing process.

I got all 3 of my cartilage piercings done with a gun at Claire's and I honestly think I'm very lucky because I didn't have any complications at all with healing time, the process in general, or tenderness after it healed. I used their solution to clean my ears but whatever you do decide to clean your piercing with (and you can ask your piercer what they recommend) make sure you do it at least twice a day, morning and night.

I got two of my cartilage piercings done at claires and each time had to take them out not long after. They both swelled up and got so sore that it became unbearable. I then got a scaffold piercing but went to a tattooist and this time it's fine. It's still a bit sore but that's because it can take up to a year to heal. Definitely clean it twice a day, sometimes I forget and regret it the next day.

Definitely go for a needle. My cartilage took over a year to heal, but I have an auto immune disorder and am prone to slow healing. It's worth it though. I love mine. Just keep it clean. (: I highly advise not sleeping on it! Sleep on the other side, or your back or belly if you can manage either of those.

I got my cartilage pierced a bit over a year ago and it healed completely around 11 months later. I got it done with a needle and it was almost painless. My lobe piercing hurt way more. I got a couple small infections but I just put some hospital grade cleaner on it and it cleared up very quickly. I love my piercings and can't wait to get more.

Thank you all so much! Wow the healing process is much longer than I expected, but it's so cute that I just can't resist haha. Hopefully I won't get any major infections. Thank you all once again :)
