Hey Beauties! I'm a long term wearing of extensions but as of recently I'm looking to dye my hair and that means new extensions. After digging around YouTube I've come across a method known as Tape Hair Extensions. For the past 6 months I've worn clip in hair extensions and I have worn them in the past so I'm well familiar with them. However, if someone has any experience with Tape Extensions could you please provide some insight? Pros? Cons? Price? Would you consider them better than clips? Thanks dolls xoxo.

Tape in extensions are more permanent than clip on hair. It's less damaging, but it can be more expensive depending on your hair length and thickness. Normally to do a clients full head will take me about an hour / hour and a half. They need to be refitted every three months or so but you wash them as your own hair. It can be tricky because you can't get any conditioner or oils on the tapes or they will slide out. Every salon is different, but mine charges roughly 350$ but that can go up to 500$. Best of luck dear! And definitely do your research on salons! I'd advise not to do them yourself the first time, because once the tape is stuck its on there.

I used to wear extensions for years... Clips and sew ins. I looked into tape ins and I found that it wasn't best suited for me because of the washing and conditioning as Baileigh mentionned. Also, it was significantly more expensive, especially if you're already spending a ton on the actual extensions themselves. For me, clip ins werent very damaging, so that was positive, and also they lasted soooo long because it wasnt constantly in my hair like my sew ins (in your case it would be tape ins). Its worth a try but if I were you I'd stick to clips:D but this is coming from someone who decided not to get them lol.

Thanks Lara! I love clip ins but if I got tapes I know aside from fixing my hair it'd cut down on the time to do my hair because it takes at least 15-20 minutes to do my hair with clips. :)

I've been wearing extensions for 8 years and tape ins is my favourite method. Way more high maintenance though. Washing, brushing and styling your hair will be different. Dry shampoo and hair oils are your new best friends. But the benefit is they're in all the time and they're less damaging than other methods. It is likely a more expensive method because you will need them touched up every 4-6 weeks (for me personally) but I've been able to show my mom how to retape them for me so I save money on that. It really depends on the person , for me having longer hair 24/7 is worth the other hassles but it does take some getting used to! Mine was about 500$ to order the hair and get it out in. If you have any more questions lemme know :)

I know most tapes require a solvent to remove from the hair but like how do you retape them? Thats probably my biggest concern and how many pieces are needed for a full head? My hair is pretty thick and for clips in I stay close to sets that have 9-10 pieces.

So yes you need a solution to break the tape bond and the extensions will slip out of your hair. And you will peel the tape off that way too. And then you just add tape on them again. Your stylist will do all of this, and then put them back in your head. I don't recommend doing this yourself until you're well versed in how to do it.

The tapes in are different than clip ins being that they aren't full wefts with multiple clips on them. They are individual pieces about 2cm long? And they go all over in sandwhiches I have about 15 pieces in I think?

I love clips, I have tried all types and they all made me have bald spots but clips don't

I've noticed the least damage with tape ins personally. Cause wearing clip ins daily for me meant desist back combing my hair to place the clips which cause a lot of breakage. If you take care of your hair properly with tape ins it can give your hair a nice break from constant washing and heat tools
