Help! I want to love MFE Mat Velet+! :(

I've heard so many good reviews for MFE Mat Velet+ I couldn't wait to try it but when I put it on my face I was so disappointed.....it gave me kind of a chalky look :( I'm wondering if maybe I applied it wrong??? I used a beauty blender sponge which I usually get awesome results with...For the people out there that love Mat Velvet+ what do you use to apply it?? Do you use a certain primer with it?
