So I'm looking for a place to get my hair done for prom and I want to get an updo, but a lot of places are expensive. I heard fantastic Sam's does updos but I was wondering if anyone knows if they are any good.

I personally don't like any kind of chain hair salons like super cuts and all that - if you want a good hairstyle then yes it will cost more but if you are fine with someone who most likely has not had any sort of professional training to do your updo (which is pretty much the majority of the workers at those chain hair salons) then go for it - but you will basically be paying someone with little to no more knowledge than you or your friends if they were to do it for you - but they would probably do it for free... Lol I hate to be mean but that's just how I feel about those places.

You get what you pay for. your better off checking out a small lower priced salon rather then going to a chain place like fantastic sams. like Diana said, they don't have proper training. updos take time, some are very intricate and require a lot of skill. it's worth it to pay a little more.

Get them to do an updo on you before your prom so you can see if you like it or not. also check out people who run a hair salon out if their own home. they're usually always cheaper than salons and they do an amazing job.

The people that work in chain salons are cosmetologists. They go to the same schools. Difference tends to be in experience and training. In chain salons the are trained to do basics in a short period of time to stimulate revenue. They have quotas they are expected to meet monthly/weekly. I think for an updo a chain salon or even a school will be perfectly fine. Some people are better at certain processes than others. Try to find a stylist that really loves doing updos.
