Tan through makeup?

I'm going to the 'beach' tomorrow with friends and I want to wear makeup. I just don't want my face to not get tanned. Is it true that when you go tanning with makeup on, your face tans less quickly? If so, what to you suggest I wear for face makeup? I'll wear waterproof mascara and lip balm. I always apply sun screen after my moisturizer so I've got that covered.

It actually is true, as most face makeup products contain some sort of SPF within them (foundations, concealers, and powders typically have the most). Even when using products that do not have these types of ingredients, you may still find that your face tans less quickly compared to if you worn nothing at all, since the makeup can act as a "barrier" between your bare skin and the sun's UV rays. If you're like me and love applying makeup even on beach days, then your best bet might be to use a gradual self tanning face moisturizer instead; not only will you be able to wear makeup tomorrow, but you will also have a tan face without the worries of getting sunburned, etc. Although if you do not regularly wear a lot of face makeup, you could limit it to perhaps a simple BB cream or a pressed powder; this may help a bit, since you will be applying less product to your face and thus, less SPF. Note that mascara and lip balm are absolutely fine to wear : I'm referring to purely base makeup throughout this post. Good luck and I hope I provided adequate assistance :)

Amy I'm going to move this to makeup - please remember to post in the right category... when you ask about makeup you always have to post in makeup - not beauty!
