I use Wrap Snap & Go hair rollers and you could actually do the same using paper. :)

My hair looks almost exactly like this the 2nd day after using flexi rods. As in put them in hair at night, wake up to super duper curly hair on day 1, sleep with my hair in a "pineapple" that night and wake up day two with hair like this. You could also try the "rag doll" curl method.

I have a bed head lollipop wand, the one that wider at the end. And my hair looks like this when I use it and loosen it with my fingers and a brush.
