Extensions Please Help, Tons Of Questions.

So I'm thinking of getting clip in hair extensions but I have tons of questions since I've never used them before. I did go through the talk section of BL first but my questions were still not answered. So bare with me but here we go.

So first and foremost, how do I know how long they need to be? My hair is currently just past my shoulder but I want some that come to the middle of my back. How do I know how many grams to choose? How do you clean them? Is it just like normal hair? Do they have to lay a certain way to air dry? Can they be brushed or do they need to be combed/picked? How do you know if they are well made? Are the clips plastic or metal or do they have both? If they have both which is better? Where can you find quality extensions locally? (btw I live in Texas) If I were to buy online what is a secure site with quality product? Please do not recommend ebay, amazon, etc.as I will not buy from sites like these. If I were to buy online how do I choose the correct color?

A different set of questions. For those of you that do use clip ins what brands have you tried and what do you like/dislike about them? Do you find that it was worth the investment/did you wear them often? I've read that some only last between 3-6 months, is this true?

Sorry for the 50 questions but for anyone that has any knowledge on this topic your help would be greatly appreciated. I may be completely over thinking this but if I'm investing $120-200 in hair that is not mine I want to make sure I can take care of it.

Ok so for starters this is just what I've experienced in the past. I wore them for like 3-4 years. Mostly clipins but then I moved on to sewins. I loved clipins. If you want the middle of your back, I think 18 inches is good. I liked to mix 20 +18 inches myself to get it slightly above my belly button and to get them layered without having to cut. When I comes to grams... Idk. I bought them in packs so I would get two packs and I'd have some extra that I kept in case something happened. For cleaning, I would shampoo and condition them about once a week or every two weeks... It doesn't get as dirty as your actual hair. When conditioning I liked to let it sit for like 10 mins just to soften them up. Also I tried to not shampoo as much because its damaging just as real hair. I liked to use oils on the tips and I would use leavein conditonner so that the heat wouldnt damage as much and I'm pretty sure thats one of the reasons my extensions used to last me so long. You really have to take care of them like real hair. I usedto let them air dry on a dry towel and flip them around every so often. For brushing, I used a regular brush but I held on to the top in a fist kinda way so that the hair can't break off as easily. To know if they are somewhat well made, make sure you go through the hair, it should feel like your own hair and it should be virgin. Make sure it doesn't shed a lot right off the bat. When you wash at first it will bleed color and shed a bit but its normal, after then, it shouldnt be as much. I used to get metal clips, unaware if there is plastic. Metal had a tight grip. I would lightly tease and hairspray my sections so thatthe hold was strong. When I was super lazy, I would sleep with them and they would be perfect in the morning. But then again I wouldnt buy them pre made, I would sew the tracks and clips together which was a total nightmare and waste of time... I don't know websites because I only bought from hair supply stores. I prefered to see them and feel them in person to color match and stuff but I'm pretty sure you can email companies to help them color match you. My extensions probably lasted me around 6 months give or take. I would spend about 120$ so I wasnt getting the absolute best quality ever but I did buy some pretty good extensions and I hardly ever had problems. Usually, the better the extensions, the more expensive, but then again, those ones last for years. But with your budget youll get good ones for sure. The only other suggestion I have is make sure you blend!! I've seen so many tracks sticking out like its horrible. Make sure to space them out evenly and make sure the layers look natural, I was lucky enough that people never really noticed but it did take me a lot of time some mornings.

I saw good reviews on Foxylocks extensions,this girl has a youtube channel,just type in 'foxylocks',you can prolly see the reviews of others aswell,besides how-to's etc. I personally don't use exstensions at all cause I'm in a budget,but these caught my eye cause they look really good quality and have good colors to choose from.

Do not get synthetic hair or a mixture of synthetic/human hair. it will burn when you try it use heat in it.
