So I'm going to be dying the ends of my hair purple. I don't know which brand of hair dye to use or if my hair is light enough to dye without bleaching it first. Does anyone have advice?

If you don't want to bleach your hair try using manic panic's purple haze it shows up pretty well on non bleach hair. Also watch some videos on YouTube on the look you're trying to achieve. I recommend leaving the dye in over night and rinsing it out in the morning if you want the color to last. Also try to keep washing your hair down to a minimum after you dye it I was mine was a week. If you get oily hair use dry shampoo. Also after you dye it don't wash your hair for 72 hours so the hair cuticle can close back up and the color will last longer. That's all I can think of right now. I hope it helped.
