Hair help? Balayage

Getting balayage next week pretty similar to this, however as I've said in a past post my hairs very blocky and hard to curl. What type of cut would I need to be able to pull this colour off both curly AND straight? I'll attach a photo on my hair.

I'm pretty sure that she just has a few layers throughout her entire head of hair. It also looks like she ran her fingers through the top to somewhat move more hair to the back if that makes any sense.

Layers! and using a straighter to curl does wonders. just have to practice with it.
