How to make my hair grow fast?

Apr 13, 2015

Shanae J.

You can't make hair grow any faster than it does. Hair growth is left up to genetics only and nothing else. No tricks or anything. Don't take any pills or vitamins without consulting your doctor.

Also, all you can do is care for your hair to keep it from being damaged and having to trim the damage.

Here's information about the product that Luke mentioned. It's great for scalp build up.

Make sure to get a SLIGHT trim every 6 weeks. Have your hairdresser cut it dry too. This won't make it grow faster but your ends won't be splitting near as much and you will keep that growth. Try taking biotin too. It's just a vitamin so there's really no harm in trying.

Biotin has actually made tons of people sick. It's actually made for people with a biotin deficiency. Biotin is already in lots of the food that you eat on a daily basis. Please speak with your doctor for a health professionals opinion on whether it'd be okay for you to take or not. Too much biotin can harm you. Immensely. It's just not a good risk to take.

Biotin is not a prescribed medication from a doctor. It's literally like a vitamin. There are also biotin shampoos and conditioners. I don't personally use them but I have a client that does (I am a professional hairdresser) and it has been working great for her, while she is taking the pills. You can also get them in different doses, so if you are worried you could take the lowest dose possible.

I understand that. I'm just giving Rachana some more information about Biotin. It's not proven to fasten hair growth. It's specifically for people with deficiencies, just because people without deficiencies take them without a problem, doesn't mean it'll be okay for everyone to do so, that's why I stated for her to speak with her doctor. People have gotten extremely sick. I'm just sharing the cons as you shared the pros, that's all. I completely agree with you, Stacie. Biotin could be good for your hair as in making it healthier, but it won't make your hair grow faster, you can also ask your doctor about that as well Rachana and they'll tell you that it won't speed up hair growth, as it's only left up to genetics. Biotin is great for hair skin and nails, but only if you have a deficiency, it won't work if you don't have a deficiency, only harm your health. Ice recently spoken to my family doctor over this matter as I was completely in between whether it was true or not.

Yes, biotin is a vitamin, but it's the type of vitamin that your body can get rid of,like vitamin D. So whatever you take, it will stay in your body, no matter if your body actually needs it or doesn't need it, until you release it through secretions (urine, sweat, ect) I've seen girls get horrible cystic acne from it. And I've heard horror stories where people have been hospitalized from a biotin "overdose". It's easily available, which is why I believe so many people use it for their hair. I won't lie and say I haven't taken biotin, but I have, and it literally made me hungry every second of the day. Which isn't supposed to happen while taking a "harmless" vitamin. Some symptoms of a biotin efficiency are hair loss, and cracking of the skin near the lips.

I've* not ice. Sorry.

Definitely speak with your health care professional beforehand, Rachana. That's all I'm saying. That's terrible, Kaitlin!

I don't recommend biotin.

Yeah, it was horrible! Biotin helps break down carbohydrates and fats in your body. I literally felt lethargic

You can get sick if you overdose on anything. I have experienced that myself (but not with biotin). I have never heard or experienced anything bad about it so I don't have anything bad to say about it that's all :)

I agree & a lot can be learned from this thread!

Either way, if you're going to give information you need to cite a source. Personal anecdotes aren't research. Everyone is different. The arguments here against biotin have no more credible sources than the arguments for it.

Anybody could come on here and say it's proven its good, or its proven its bad. If you really want to help and give good advice, share a credible source that backs up your point. Otherwise, who knows?

I didn't get any information from the internet. Both points were good points. Simply speak with your doctor if you want a source. Simple as that.

Taking biotin or any pills without taking a blood test to see if your deficient is incredibly dangerous. If you're on even a semi healthy diet you're most likely getting enough biotin from your food. As someone who has overdosed on biotin when I was younger, please do not just go out and take pills. Just because they're sold in stores does not mean you should take them without consulting a doctor. Taking any vitamins, especially biotin can lead to very bad side effects that defeat the point of taking them for nice hair like hair loss, hair dryness, nail weakness, skin issues like permanent breakouts, dehydration etc, not to mention the lethal ones like kidney failure, liver failure, heart palpitations and more. Read these threads for even more reasons why you should NOT take biotin or any other pills just because someone on the Internet said it's okay.

Thank you Shanae. And in the last one I shared my personal experience on overdosing on biotin. Just for proof, plus Emily shared some actual science studies and such. :)

Those are all things to care for your hair, Cocoa, not to make your hair grow. & it was stated multiple times that caring for your hair is what can help it stay healthy which will result in less inches having to be cut off.

Herbal essence, the newer pink bottle that is rose petal scented. I've been using it for a couple months and I let the conditioner sit for a little and it made my hair more shiny and healthy! Helped me tons with split ends.
