Is it fine to sleep with damp hair?

Many people say it causes headaches. But that has never been proven by schience. I always sleep with damp hair. I never ever have headaches, I don't get split ends, I never have extreme tangles, my hair doesn't break and my hair is just dry and soft in the morning. I never have any problems with my hair after I went to bed with damp / wet hair. So it is completely fine.

I'm not sure if it damages the hair but definetly be careful about it. My hair is really thick so when I sleep with wet hair I wake up with it still damp.

I got a bit depressed for a few weeks after a bad breakup and I would go to bed with my hair wet and in the morning then put it up in pony tail or braid it. The problem with doing what I did was that my hair never fully dried throughout the day. So after two weeks of my hair being pretty much damp most of the time my hair starting smelling really funky, like mildew. I know, really disgusting, but I had never thought that would happen. Fyi, for anyone who has experienced what happened to my hair the only thing that fixed my hair was Head & Shoulders Green Apple shampoo + Tea tree oil from the pharmacy mixed.

So I guess what I'm getting at is to make sure your hair dries throughly before putting into a style that will keep moisture in the morning or at least don't do it too often.

Though it for the most part doesn't cause severe damage, your hair is more prone to breaking when it's wet/damp. That's why people recommend not brushing your hair while it's wet with a brush, but rather to use a wide-tooth comb. In my personal experience, it frizzed my hair out and made it look like I had twice as many split ends than I really did. I have thinner hair though so you might have a different experience. If you do do it, please be careful not to lay on it and try to keep it pushed behind you. Also, try to keep your bangs/front hair flat when you lay on it, or it will dry weird :) Xx

I personally don't like sleeping w wet hair bc I noticed it's really greasy and oily in the morning. I always make sure it's dry before I sleep ☺️

I sleep with damp hair quite a few times out of the month as well.. it's never caused me any problems. No extra frizz, no headaches (due to that), no greasy hair, I wake up sometimes with damp hair still or I wake up with what looks like beautiful natural waves. I sleep pretty crazy too, so..

I think it depends on the texture and thickness. I have thick natural African American hair and as I don't use blow dryers I have to sleep with my hair wet. I twist it or braid it at night and when I take it out (typically a day or three later) my hair has pretty and defined twists. It's never damaged my hair or given me a headache. But again, I've got a completely different hair texture.

Personally I would not do it because if you keep it moist and dark for too long that's how you get bacteria and you can get a nasty smell on your head. You won't smell it because it's not coming from your hair but usually the back of your scalp but other people will, not pleasant.

Ever since I was little I took showers before bed, and my hair's generally pretty healthy and all, I've never really heard of anything bad coming from it so it should be ok :) although sometimes you could get serious bed head hair so I usually braid it suuper loosely (so it can still dry overnight)

When I had long hair and slept with wet hair I would get the whole pillow wet, but it does not hurt youbor anything like that.
