My hair grows back very light compared to the black and when the roots come in, it almost looks like I'm balding back there but I'm not.

It's not so much a bad part, it's just the MAJOR contrast between your natural hair color and your dyed hair. You can try blow drying your hair to fall all the the back and constantly doing that will start training it to do so naturally. Or just do hairstyle that require all your hair to be pushed back (ponytails, half up half down, teasing) Hair extensions definitely won't help, though. I watch a girl on YouTube who is a natural blonde but dyes her hair black, she wears extensions, but it doesn't nothing for the roots.

The only way you can get rid of it though, is just touching up the roots every time it grows too much

I had this problem when my hair was black too, and Renay is right. It's because of the contrast in hair colours that it looks so different, I felt the same way and eventually decided black hair wasn't worth the upkeep (I'd dye it very frequently to cover the roots) and went lighter. Have you considered trying a lighter hair colour? :)

My hair does sort of the same thing, when I let it dry naturally my part runs waaay too far back over the crown of my head. I just blow dry that section while combing it back starting where I would like my side part to stop with my round brush. It seems to work just fine for me!
