Once a month is fine unless there's tons of buildup before then or you start noticing it's causing breakouts. I wash them by shampooing and conditioning them. The conditioning isn't necessary but it keeps mine soft. Use warm water to wet the brush, shampoo it until water runs clear, condition it, and set it on a hand towel to dry. I've heard not to squeeze all of the excess water out; not sure why but I've always followed that rule. Do it before you go to bed and brushes should be clean and dry in the morning. :)

If you take good care of your brushes, they should last you years. Make sure you do clean them regularly to make them last long and to keep your face from breaking out.

The bottom eye brushes are huge! I bought this set & was very disappointed w/ the eye brushes. maybe if you have huge bug eyes w/ lots of lid space to work w/ it'd be ok. not a fan of the bristles either, it's coarse & doesn't place product on that well.

Thank you Kaytlin! Noo! Janette really? there were great reviews on Amazon :/ If anything, they were a great price so if I don't like them I will definitely invest in a more high end set. It's my first time so I wanted something to help me at least get the hang of it. Thank you so much for your comment!
