Any alternatives to lip liner?

Is there an alternative to using lip liner when using very red lipstick. I've been told that if I wanna wear lipstick I need to line my lips first?

well I never line my lips I just use a lip defining brush when applying lipstick

I go back with concealer around the lips and it seems to help keep the lipstick from bleeding and lips stay defined.

You don't necessarily have to. I find a red tinted lip balm (BUT NOT THE BABY LIPS ONE) works perfectly fine. NYX has one that's fairly red and it helps as a guide more than anything.
