Which products and techniques are best for getting body around the top and sides of your head if you have long hair? My hair is heavy so it pulls any chance of body away. I'm left with flatness. ): I'm a curls and body kindof girl.

Layers! Honestly you can use every volumizing product out there and may not get the effect you are looking for! So first I would suggest layers, then I would suggest a really great rootboosting spray, blow drying your hair upwards... Away from the roots (adding lift). And then getting a volumizing powder and a good teasing comb and teasing your crown as much as it takes!

So am I Audrey. A good haircut makes a big difference here. My hair is medium textured but I have a ton of it. I make sure my stylist textures the layers so that they are lighter. I also find that too many volumizing products weigh down the hair. I use Nexus Thermal mousse to style. It isn't expensive and it works. I use a huge round brush and redirect the top by brushing straight back and then bring the hair forward slightly. Big hot rollers are awesome as is a big curling iron. Avoid the one with the tapered end and roll horizontally vs spread out like a spiral curl. Take the iron out as horizontally as possible making the hair look like it is in a curler then pin till dry. Kerastase Lumi extract is awesome for piecing out the texture and separating curls. It's thin and has a bit of hold. You squeeze out a bit and rub it through your hands till it emulsifies into a liquid. Then work through hair for gorgeous shine, body, texture, and hold.

Using a thickening product helps. I have very long hair too and when I want extra volume I do a few things. I blow dry my hair with my head upside down, roll my hair up after I curl with a curling iron, switch my parting up and tease it.
