I think its a cool idea however personally I think it sounds disgusting. Every time I consider trying it I can't bring myself to do it. Those of you that choose to, more power to you :)

Great points made all around. There are positives and negatives to oil pulling. As Mallory mentioned lets keep it classy as we're all here for one thing...fuel to feed our beauty addictions.

My comment was stating that her threads spread false information, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

I agree with Mallory.

Ladies and gents, this sly catty-ness and back-and-forth rudeness isn't necessary. BeautyLish is all about positivity and supporting one another. There's nothing wrong with a difference in opinion and it's perfectly okay to disagree with someone, as long as you do so in a polite manner. If you're incapable of mature dialogue, then perhaps BeautyLish is not for you (that's for any and everyone). And please try to keep in mind that there are people from all over the world on here so it's natural to have different opinions and perspectives. Keep it classy ladies.

Shelby, definitely try it! It can't hurt lol.

And just FYI, don't spit it in any pipe, not the shower or toilet, just the garbage can. It can clog ANY pipe, not just sinks.

The comment "my gums didn't bleed anymore" makes me wanna do this. I have a problem with that when I brush

I love oil pulling. I've been slacking lately but I did it every day for months. No I didn't see tons of benefits, but my teeth were whiter, less cavities, less sensitivity, my gums didn't bleed when I brushed, my mouth just felt so much healthier. As for other things, it made me much more relaxed. I spent 15-20 minutes every morning just sitting and listening to music or whatever, and it really made a difference in my day, and I think once you feel better mentally you feel better physically. I also noticed I wasn't as bloated after eating salt the day before, but I have no idea if that was the oil pulling or not.

I agree with kelly there is also no need to be rude.
this is a thread, opinions will be stated.
there was no negative judgements either.

I wasn't referring to you, yet if you felt the need to explain then do so. #Continue. I'm done with this discussion.

I'll add to that...these diys and fads also tend to exaggerate on the benefits.. like oil pulling.

There are no negative judgments being made. just stating the facts. a lot of these diy and fads/trends have great benefits but if done wrong can cause harm. No one is spending energy on you either, it's simply replying to a thread...that's what a message board is all about.

Cool 😊. I could care less about any negative judgements made about my threads. I love the energy you spend thinking of me though. 😘 #MuchLove

It also pulls things out of your gums, your gums are like little sponges absorbing toxins

And btw if anyone choses to do this, brush your tongue a lottttt after!! So much of the bacteria stays there.

I actually did this for a good month or maybe more last year then I started a few times. Honestly I really liked doing it, my goal was to whiten my teeth and clean my mouth because I have saliva that makes me prone to getting cavities. It really helped with the cleanliness. I had reached points where I almost didn't even have to brush at night (I did though). At first I thought it was creepy to have oil sitting there for so long, but after the first time, it was super smooth and I didnt havr issues. I choose not to do it anymore because I'm lazy and I guess I just wished there was more to it than swishing oil for twenty minutes just for a clean mouth... I decided to brush more often.

I agree with Logan my jaw gets sore just with regular mouthwash I couldn't do it with coconut oil lol.
definitely not for 15 minutes.

I'm in nursing school right now & we were just discussing this topic the other day. Oil-pulling is completely pointless, other than the fact that it could help clean your mouth.. Sorry ladies lol save your taste buds and take a multivitamin ❤️

I agree, that was pretty rude. Especially considering the fact that most of the things you recommend are extremely dangerous, not including this thread but others.

Honestly I don't know if I could swish for 15 minutes even if I wanted to. Literally when I swish with mouthwash for like 3 minutes my jaw gets sore lol.

I actually just read an article on oil pulling. a doctor from India said that there are two ways to properly do it. one is to put a table spoon of oil in your mouth and hold it there for 4 minutes then spit it out and repeat that process one more time. the other one is to put a table spoon of oil in the mouth, hold it in place for a few minutes then swish for another minute or so. and I'm going to agree with Alex. oil pulling is awesome for oral health but since the oil is not ingested it won't do much more.
oh and @Mademoiselle A. most of us are on mobile devices or type fast and don't catch spelling mistakes until we post. so there is no need to be the spelling or grammar police.

I've heard by multiple people that it doesn't do anything, so I've never wasted my time with it

I want to try this I've never done it and didn't know how hah.

I do it, it's removed a lot of stains from my teeth! It isn't that bad to me. The coconut taste Isn't too bad.. And the texture isn't too bad to me either. I usually do it in the shower though so I don't think about it as much.

I can see that being true Alex. But about the gross part of doing it - I 'like' that it gets out all the bacteria that the mucus contains, whenever you're stuck with it. Otherwise it just stays in your system so I am just always relieved to see that gross stuff is not going down in my body anymore. There's something to it. But I agree with the overhyping and profiling it as something it is not. How handy to have a mom that is a dietitian by the way!
