Oh haha. Yea, it's "Diy." Anyways, you definitely want to be extremely careful, because cutting material like that can cause the material to completely rip if you don't hem the part you cut.

I would put on the bottoms, mark where you want them to be, take them off, cut and hem them (:

Marking them while wearing them before you cut them will help you get the placement right rather than blindly going in with scissors

You couldn't do it when you wear them the material would go weaker and weaker and you don't want to be walkin down the beach and you shower the grown jewls.. If you sew a hem on then it will work but I wouldn't chance it, try eBay they should do bikini bottoms like that for cheap.

I'd find a pattern and try to cut the material to the pattern or make a pattern before you cut it. Are you experienced with sewing?

I don't think it can be done with lycra/spandex. I agree with Shanae that it very well may ruin the material.
