Gel nails and acrylics?

I have a really bad habit of picking my nails. I'm trying really hard to grow them longer, which is why I always paint them. I've heard this but I'm not sure if it's true, do gel nails add length? Haha I'm sorry I don't know much about gel nails! I've also thought about acrylics but I think those can be damaging.

Gel nails don't add length, they just make the nail polish last longer. Acrylics are damaging if you don't take care of them and remove them improperly (I would know, I used to cut my old acrylics off all the time and my nails would be so sad and brittle after that)

Alexis C. So then I guess I'd want to stay away from acrylics. I don't have very strong or hard fingernails.

When your nails get stronger you could definitely go for acrylics (:

Just be patient and care for your nails and they'll grow!

I disagree. There are gel nails that add length, they are liquid gels. I wore them for years until I had to take them off for school. I had acrylics for a long time too before gels and honestly the acrylics were horrible in comparison. they yellowed and broke easily and grew out too fast looking fake. I never had those issues with the gels and far less damage when I took them off.
