I'm thinking about taking a career change in becoming an esthetician. I really hope some of you can help me with the following questions. I've been doing research of my own but I also want to get some personal experience because sometimes the internet can be misleading lol.
1. I'm from Canada (near Toronto) has anyone heard of LubaMera private career college? or any other type of private college that offers this program? It's an 8 month course to get a diploma but I wanted to know if these private colleges are recognized when trying to get a job in the industry?
2. What do you generally do on a daily basis at work?
3. Approx. how many hours do you work a week?
4. What is the pay like(if you don't mind sharing)?

Hi Shauna. I can't answer number one because I'm in California. Now as far as #2, I work for a luxury Spa and I primarily do facials and some waxing. I was lucky to enter a working place where I did not need to bring my own clientele but instead it was provided for me. #3, I my work part time about 24 hrs. and sometimes I pick up days. #3. Now as far as the pay goes it varies on the facial prices but most can start you off at 20% pay per treatment. Let me know if you have any other questions.

@Yanin thank you! I do have a couple more questions for you. What kind of schooling did you go through to become an esthetician and how many years of schooling did you take? Did you go to a private career college? Also, I'm not sure if wage is different but I've been researching on the internet and it says that you generally get paid $12 an hour plus tips. Do you get paid hourly or do you just get a percentage from the treatment that you do?

@Shauna I did go to a private school called Marinello School of Beauty. It took me approximately 9 months. I got my Diploma and then took my State exam to get licensed, you need a license in order to work. I get paid a percentage per treatment and it's depending on how much the facial is. For example the girls that just started here make about 18-20% per facial. The prices here range from $120-205 per facial. Oh and then we get tips :)

There are also other spas that pay hourly like you mentioned but not all of them.

Thank you so much Yanin you've definitely helped clarify some things. I have an appointment with the college on Friday so that I can check out the facility.
