Right so I'm building a portfolio and just wondering if any of you have tips on taking photos, I'm using my iPhone so any camera apps that will help get better quality, this evening I did a wedding makeup look and my camera didn't pick up the blending on the eyeshadow and it's really annoyed me. Tips on lighting and camera's would be great thanks :)

Is this a professional portfolio that you are wishing to show to potential clients? If it is I highly advise not using apps that play with the actual picture itself because its not an accurate portrait of your work. My daughter is a MUA and she created her book the old-fashion way and has been to interviews for makeup gigs where artists pulled up photos on their iPhone only to be outright embarrassed by those in the position to hire. If on a budget seek out an advance photography student at a local community college or art school. In exchange for their skills they get work to put in their portfolio and as well as yourself. That is what my daughter did and she only had to pay for processing of the film which was very small. With an actual physical portfolio you will look much more polished and professional. The photographer can also get your work in its best light because they will have the necessary equipment available to them.

Yeah! For colleges in makeup!! & I didn't mean filters I don't use them on my makeup for my portfolio as it won't be my work :) thanks so much! the iPhone camera is meant to show good quality but in the lighting I was using it didn't do me any favours! Yeah my brothers friend is a photographer so I have a few professional photos off him, but thankyou helps a lot :)

As for a camera, I've used a Canon T1i and a Canon T3i in the past and currently use a Nikon D5300. Canon's are a little more beginner friendly if you've never owned a DSLR before, but a do like Nikons for image quality more.

You really need a DSLR camera so that the quality of images on your pictures when are good enough to use in your portfolio. Trust me, a good camera makes all the difference.
