Hi everyone, I have blemishes on my face and I have used lemon to exfoliate my face in the past and it has helped the blemishes to fade but I want to start using it again.

How often should I exfoliate my face?

PLEASE DO NOT USE LEMON.

Lemon throws off the skins pH balance and damages skin cells.

I would highly suggest getting a proper exfoliator or even use a wet wash cloth. Either way you should exfoliate at least once a week and no more than 3 times a week.

I personally exfoliate daily, it actually depends on the abbrasivness of your scrub as well as your skin type and the issue you're targeting. gentle daily scrubbing works better for me than super harsh scrubs once a week. Though regardless, you really shouldn't use lemon on your face as the acidity corrodes the top layer of your skin.

Brittany is correct. I use Dermalogica daily microfolliant and usually use it every day and once in a while will you a stronger exfoliant and it works well for me.

Yes please listen to these ladies. I used lemon before too and although it does appear to work short term long term it will make skin worse with continued use. It's not worth it.

I think it's fine if lemon works for you - although it does throw off your skins pH - so does a cleanser - so that really isn't hurting much and the only way it "damages" skin cells is if you expose raw lemon on your skin to sun light - but there are ZERO scientific studies that prove that lemon is bad for your skin or throws off pH balance so much that it is any more or less damaging than a cleanser - but typically you want to exfoliate once or twice a week MAX unless it's a chemical exfoliant that is gentle like BHA or AHA - If you want to stick with the lemon make sure you mix it with water then apply to your skin - don't let it sit for longer than a minute or 2 and then wash it off completely - and use a toner to bring your skin back to a healthy pH (much like a cleanser) and you'll be fine :)

Also if you know definition of exfoliation - it's removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin - and acids don't "corrode" anything - that's what bases do - acids can burn the skin but it would have to have a pH between 1-2 to really do damage - and even then you wouldn't notice it right away - lemons pH is about 3 - and your facial pH ranges from 4-6 depending on your skin type so using lemon really is not as much of a jump as a cleanser which is usually in the pH range of around 9... So if anything is corroding the top layer of skin it's an exfoliating cleanser... Not a lemon... But what do I know - I just have an MS in chemistry and BS in chemical engineering... Anyways everyone's skin is different and some people benefit from using lemons while others don't so if it works for you then don't let others scare you out of using it when they don't even have hard scientific evidence to back up their claims..

Thanks for the info ladies, if lemon doesn't work, what can I use to get rid of my blemishes?
