I second Justine's advice. My stepdad is retired military and those balls...are important to your loved one even though to most outsiders they seem silly. You are an extension of that individual who wears the uniform and this event is not the place to be a rebel with makeup and hair. Conservative. A soft pink lippie and a neutral eye (sparkly taupe shades come to mind). Hair...either an undo with some nice hair pins or worn down with curled tendrils.

Okay thanks. I didn't want to do a lot because I thought it would be too much. I'm just the date and these things are new to me.

And if you have any facial or tongue piercings, multiple ear piercings...take those out and if you have any visible tats...cover those up as well. I forgot to make mention of that.

Just keep it classy! It's your man's time to shine, so I agree with Shelley, conservative is best for military functions. What branch is he in? Or rather, what uniform will he be wearing? For all of my husband's balls I usually tried to match my dress and makeup to his dress blues so we wouldn't clash and would look nice in photos.
