I just got hair extensions a while ago, they're clip ins and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks for wearing them? They're also significantly longer than my actual hair, probably by about 6 inches. Any tips on blending them and my real hair together?

I,went to a salom that dealt with extensions and they placed them in and then cut.and styled them in place to blend. then we put little marks on in nail polish on the back of the clip so I remembered which piece went where and what side. I had a little crib sheet until I remembered by heart!

That's smart! Maybe I should get mine cut and marked.

when you clip in too, I always do a little back comb and spritz a little hairspray before putting the clip it so it's got something to really grip on to

I have much shorter hair than my clip-ins and it may be hard to style and kind of a pain in the butt at first, but you'll get the hang of styling them in no time! I never style my extensions off of my head, I always clip them in first, then style them with my hair. I feel it gives it a more organic look. I also recommend getting them cut into your hair. I also have my real hair's ends thinned out so it blends a lot easier. Since I have to heat style my hair with extensions everyday, I try not to damage my hair otherwise, so if I backcomb, its only on the bottom weft for the extra structure and support, but not with the others on top of that. I'm not sure how many extensions you have, but I have two sets of extensions because I find that gives a much better effect. Having two sets makes the hair look fuller and it is easier to blend, otherwise you may end up with a thinned out mullet look. When straightening my hair with the extensions, I quickly run over the top half of my real hair with a straightener then clip in my extensions and go over everything together with the straightening iron in small sections. I have never tried hair spray when straightening my hair and blending the extensions because I just do not like it, but I do run a super tiny bit of Argan Oil through my hair with the extensions in when I complete straightening my hair. It is pretty difficult to get a perfect blended look with straightening your hair until you get the extensions cut into you hair. When curling the hair, it is super easy to blend-its a much less time consuming process and it is easy to perfect. Its the easiest to curl the extensions with a curling iron, but if you have hot rollers, that also turns out really well! I also find it a bit easier to blend hair when straighten my real hair into my extensions that were curled the day before. It gives you loose waves at the end and it is a lot easier to blend in than a full pin straight look that includes the extensions. I find it easier to blend freshly washed hair with extensions that are not freshly washed. I try to wash my extensions about as much as I was my real hair (about 3-4 times a week for my real hair and 2-3 for my extensions) so I usually alternate washing days.
Okay so I just threw a bunch of random information at you in a pretty unorganized way, I'm sorry! If you want a clearer explanation of some part of that big paragraph, just ask and I'll further explain. Also if you have any specific questions, just ask and I'll probably have an answer for you =) If you look at my profile pictures, every single picture where my hair is blonde (or whatever variation of blonde/grey... anything not black) I am wearing two full sets of extensions in my chin length hair... I would like to think I do a pretty good job of blending and styling them realistically and hopefully you think so too!
