If you have a break out do you still use the same routine of make up you usually do? I broke out around my mouth not that bad but I'm scared not to make it worse.

What I find that works, is to continue using the cleanser, but not exfoliate. and if you have a spot treatment definitely use that on your new blemishes.

And also use a clarifying toner if you have one.

First, drink tons of water to help boost cell repair and turnover. As far as your routine goes, use toner both AM and PM, assuming that you do already. One with witch hazel is best. When you wash, try to use a moisturizing cleanser, so that you don't accidentally dry your skin out, which leads to the production of excess oil. Julep's Bareface cleansing oil is really nice and leaves my skin feeling baby soft, but it does tend to leave a bit of an oily residue after rinsing, so I follow up by washing again with a very gentle soap (preferably one that's pH balanced). Yardley's oat and almond is nice because it doesn't have too many added chemicals/scents. Burt's Bees is usually pretty good too, or a gentle glycerine soap would also work well.
I guess my overall advice is to really baby your skin. You don't wanna mess things up further by changing your regular routine too much, but make sure that whatever products you use are as gentle as possible. Good rule of thumb: If you wouldn't wash a baby with it, don't use it. The flip side of the coin is that salicylic acid (a pretty caustic chemical when not diluted) will really help reduce swelling and redness during this time. When I'm really breaking out, I use Clean and Clear daily facial lotion, which is oil free, gentle, and has just enough salicylic acid to hold things down during the day without drying your skin up. And if you wanna use a spot treatment or a mask with salicylic acid at night, go for it, just not more than once every 3 days. Hope this has been helpful. Good luck! Breakouts are the worst!
...Oh, and I agree with Andrea. Don't exfoliate skin that's already broken out.

Whenever I start to break out I stop using all my "fun" makeup lol as in liquid foundations or any foundations that has too much ingredients. I revert back to bare minerals original powder foundation.
