Cocoa, I personally think black lipstick looks better on darker skin. Sometimes if your fair it can look sloppy and on medium skin It looks nice but not as good as it looks on dark skin.

I would start out slow then. For me I just started buying lipstick and just today I ordered some really dark colors that are almost black and once I get.comfortable with them I might play around with a black color.
For reference I bought the wet n wild lipstick I'm cherry bomb to start (wanted something cheap), and today I got the nyx soft matte lip creams in Copenhagen and Transylvania
