Me and my teen group are being assigned to to talk about beauty care and skin care, so I was wondering if you ladies could give me some beauty facts about skincare and makeup.

Skin care..
It's always good to exfoliate and moisturize. Spf sunscreen when you go out in the sun.
Sleep and water can keep your skin looking fresh and glowing.

Makeup.. there's a difference between a gradient eye and smokey eye but tend to get them confused.
Makeup ruining your skin and making you grow older in the face faster is a myth, as long as you're taking proper care of your face, you'll be fine.

Wash your makeup brushes regularly! This helped reduce my breakouts a lot in high school I NEVER washed them lol

Skincare: diet, exercise, stress, and the environment (weather conditions) are all major factors that effect the skin.

With skincare don't tell ladies to "not exfoliate everyday".. I've heard so many people say it's bad to exfoliate everyday but it helped my skin and acne tremendously.
I still do it everynight.
you should tell the girls that everyone's skin is different, therefore some things will work for some girls and some won't.
exfoliating everynight helps my skin but for some makes it worse.
It all depends on skin type.
for makeup, always take off makeup before you go to sleep, clean your brushes and make sure you aren't using expired products. as in mascara usually expires in 2-3 months. foundation/concealer 6-12 months. etc. make sure you aren't using expired products than can cause infection.

That's good to know Les! I'm going to start exfoliating more, it helps my skin so much! I was told not to do it more than twice a week.

Tell me how it goes shanae! and me too.
kind of sucks I believed all the rumors of exfoliating being bad /:
once I did it nightly I noticed a difference in one-two weeks (:
can't go a day without exfoliating

It gets rid of my dry patches, it's literally the only thing that helps. Then the next day they'd be back but I believed the whole exfoliating too much can ruin your skin thing, so I couldn't do anything.

What exfoliator do you use Les?
I personally think it just depends on your skin type and the type of exfoliator you use. I make my own because its very gentle on the face which I probably use about 4 times a week

The main thing to keep in mind is that everyone's skin is different and unique - we all have different skin care needs based on our skin types, sensitivities, acne, etc - so what might work for one person may or may not work for another - but there are some basic things to keep in mind - Everybody can benefit from a good skin care regiment which includes a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer - you can add or take away certain skin care products based on your own skin care needs but other things you can include is a spot treatment for acne, and eye cream for dark circles or fine lines, an exfoliant (depending on the type your skin will usually tell you how often it likes to get exfoliation - if you notice any redness, burning, tightness or irritation then you should always stop using that product and/or use it less frequently) - whenever you start using new products you want to introduce them to your face slowly (once a week to once every other day to once a day to twice a day) and paying attention to how your skin reacts to certain products is the key to figuring out what skin type and sensitivities you may have - finally your diet does affect your skin because it's an organ like any other organ in your body - so it soaks up nutrients from your food - so paying attention to how your skin reacts to certain foods is another way to keep track of sensitivities as well - as always keeping it simple is always best and less is more when it comes to your skin care :) hope that helps!

I use the clean & clear deep action exfoliating scrub, I loveee it.
feels cooling, tingly & very refreshing.
yes I agree, everybody has different skin so it is just based on the skin type and what your skin likes and doesn't like.
I'm oily also, but it hasn't made the oilness worse like people claim it does.

For skincare you can talk about skincare regimens based on skin type. For example, you could discuss the type of cleanser, exfoliant, toner, treatment, and moisturizer that would be recommended for each skin type and why. You could also mention foods that are beneficial for skin (for ex: drinking lots of water, green tea, honey, etc). Finally you could do a myth busters section that dispels common skincare myths (for ex: putting toothpaste on a zit will help clear it up-totally false. Using lemon is a safe method for lightening dark spots- also false.)

For makeup you could do some research and discuss makeup from around the world. How do women wear their makeup in Asian countries vs African countries vs Latin countries, etc.

"Safe" is relative term when it comes to skincare - and like I said what works for one person may not work for another - some people find lemon works really well for their skin - and the only danger comes when you expose raw lemon to sunshine and it can cause burns - but diluted lemon on your skin actually won't do any harm (may not do good but some people have seen benefits from it) also there are other ingredients labelled unsafe due to carcinogenic ingredients which include parabens and hydroquinone - but people still use them because the benefits outweigh the claims that they are unsafe for some people - so any skin care claims should always be taken with a grain of salt - like the terms hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic are actually just marketing terms that don't apply to all skin types because there is no scientific evidence behind any of these claims - because you can't do a conclusive study when every person has different reactions to different things - not everyone will be harmed by the same ingredients and some people may actually benefit from them - in terms of skincare myths I would stick to facts instead of focusing on claims based on non-conclusive and non-scientific results - like how some people think pores open and close based on the water temperature applied to them - but that's a myth because the fact is your pores are always open - they are porous (hence the name pores) you can't close them but you can reduce their appearance by cleaning them out properly with a chemical exfoliant like BHA or AHA - those are skin care FACTS based on science instead of just claims based on personal experience

The importance of staying hydrated by drinking a lot of water! I think it's something that isn't emphasized as much as it should be. It's important for the skin.

Makeup is not the cause of acne for the most part. As long as you're getting all the makeup off before bed and its non comedogenic and oli free then there should be no reason for it to break you out unless there's a chemical in the makeup that your skin doesn't agree with or you're allergic to.
