Is it bad to trim your own hair? Salons are way too over priced for a simple trim.

I wouldn't say it's bad, but you definitely need to know what your doing.

Trim it yourself, there are some videos on YouTube that show you how to do it perfectly

If you're going to do it yourself make sure you YouTube the hell out of it! I didn't as much as I should and my bangs (which should've been simple) came out looking like... how can I say this? ...a Greek tragedy

I go for a salon cut once a year and trim it myself the rest of the time...once you know how it's so easy.

Pay the price. I've been working in a salon for 11 years and will admit I've been my own guinea pig once or twice, but this fact remains the same with any style/process/etc you may try.....you CANNOT see the back of your own head! Eve with mirrors you won't be able to see every "true" angle of your head.
