I have that exact one. It doesn't really crimp your hair it makes more of a wave. Tbh it kinda sucks, well at least mine does.

Yeah I tried it once and it made a crimp and I thought maybe I did it wrong, I personally hate it.

I have one, it's a bit different and it doesn't crimp at all, it creates very beautiful beachy waves or vintage 30s waves. I think that if you find the right one (I tried it out in the store on a real hair mannequin head before buying it) it can be a really useful tool!

Btw, I use it on my mom's hair. If you use it on naturally wavy hair like mine, it gives you lots more curl and body. I tried it on my own hair when I had a bob.

I have one, it's a higher quality one (my hair dresser gave me her old one when she bought a new one) and might be a bit bigger than that one and it makes super pretty waves. But you have to be patient, and have a steady hand. I don't use mine anymore since I don't use heat, but I loved it. It's Mermaid waves really. And for tips, just make sure to line it up and make sure it's straight. I know musicalbethan on YouTube uses one all the time and has a tutorial on her channel. :)
