Hey please try not to relax your hair. I know it's hard but relaxing the hair is actually very damaging. Relaxers break down the proteins in the hair making/forcing it to be straight and not curly/kinky. Hair needs these proteins to stay healthy and strong, but if they're broken down it weakens the hair, causing it to become more fragile and susceptible to breakage. If you noticed, girls with relaxed hair usually have short hair (not all have short hair but a lot do and wonder why). But if you keep your hair natural it will grow healthy strong and long. You can get the same relaxed look without the relaxers by either blowing it out and straightening it or hot combing it. Just try not to do it to often because it can cause heat damage. Also keep it moisturized. With thick coiled/kinky/curly hair the natural oils from the scalp takes longer to get to the ends of the hair than it does with straight. So we have to make sure that the we put moisture in our hair to prevent it from being dry and britle and eventually breaking off. It might be a pain to work with your natural hair texture when your used to getting relaxers/perms, but don't give up. Your hair will thank you for it later and it'll get easier to work with once you get use to it. Also keep in mind that when your natural sometimes it'll seem like the hair is taking a long time to grow. But don't worry because it is. All you have to do is pull on it to see how long it really is and then it'll bounce back up because of its texture. If you need more help and inspiration check out some videos on youtube on how to manage natural hair. Hope this helps. :)

is when you use a chemical to make your hair straight

Yes. I've been transitioning for about 10 months. So my hair stays trimed alot because there are still a lot of dead ends from the last relaxer. Eventhough there is still some breakage cause I'm still in that transition stage, there is a lot less since I had first started.

@Mimi do you plan on ever getting a relaxer again? It's hard for me because I am still in homeschool and stuff.....

No I don't plan to relax it again. I want healthy hair. Now that I know its possible to have my natural hair texture and then once in a while be able to switch it to straight without the chemicals, there really isn't a need to anymore. Being homeschooled is actually good though. You'll have more time to manage your school and take time for your hair.

Ooh ok lol. No I don't want to. My friends say I should to just get it over with so it all grows even, but its not necessary. I'm gonna just keep trimming it until its all one legnth and healthy.

I just stopped relaxing my hair six years ago and noticed a huge difference. My hair grows and its much more healthier. I usually get press and curls or go to the dominican shop. I'm starting to not put so much heat on my hair now and just explore other options.
