Kevyn Aucoin's Sculpting Powder is supposed to be pretty good. I use Anastasia's palette but I find that it's too warm for contour, fawn is really the only shade I can probably get away with.

I heard Kat Von D's contour palette is an amazing contour palette. I personally have Anastasia's. In terms of cream contour RCMA is really affordable and is really cream for contouring. It is a make up artist line so it is great quality. If you are looking to splurge though, I have to recommend Charlotte's Filmstar Bronze and Glow. AMAZING!!

It depends on what you like - I have seen some women just use different shades of foundation and blend it together; others use powders. I've even seen some youtube videos where they have used colored eyeshadows!
Also, the application can vary - blender sponges, different kinds of brushes, even just fingertips...you may have to do a little trial and error to see what you like. Hit your local makeup counter and play around! :-p
