This isn't my first post about acne but it's getting really bad and I went to my derm to be put on Accutane for the second time and my insurance wouldn't cover it so I'm stuck with nothing and I really need help. I'm 16 and I've had acne since 4th grade. I've tried everything from high end products to burning my skin in a tanning bed. I feel disgusting and I'm tired of wearing so much makeup. It's embarrassing and I just need something. My face works well with a product and then stops responding. I've also tried home remedies and tea tree oil but nothing works at all. Any suggestions? :(

Because of your age, it is likely hormonal, so finding something that will clear your skin completely is going to be difficult, if not impossible. With that said, if your skin gets "used to" a product that works and then stops working, my recommendation is to mix it up and keep that product in rotation, but don't use it exclusively. My skin behaves that way too, it's awful when a HG product stops working. In my case at least, I can prolong it's effectiveness by only using it a few times a week and using something else in the interim.

A good cleanser can make all the difference. I recently just tried the biore charcoal scrub and it was amazing! Make sure to moisturize too.

Try La roche posay skincare line specifially the 3 step system has transformed my cystic acne and scars, I had been on one round of accutane and was thinking about going on it again as my skin went crazy for the last 4/5 months, and someone recommended I try the line and in the last 2 weeks my skin has been transformed :)

Talk to your doctor and see if there is any medicine you could take (Brother went had a prescription for this.)
An oil balancing cleanser will definitely help, but do not scrub you should wash gently an dry gently to not attract any sensitive skin issues- drink plenty of water an stay away from the sweets.

Considering your age, I'd agree with Kailey and say its probably hormonal. I was in a situation very similar to yours (I started getting acne in the 5th grade and nothing helped it.) My suggestion is to talk to your doctor about birth control, it might help regulate your hormones and improve your acne. :)

Thank you all. It's really hard because like everyone has such clear skin and makeup just makes it look worse because it's all bumpy. My derm had me on this other medication close to Accutane but it didn't work, just made me depressed. I'll look into the products and I really hope there's progress soon ugh thank you again

I'm currently on 100mgs of Doxycycline Monohydrate. And erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide topical gel. Both of these have been working wonders on my skin. You can ask your derm about it. It has cleared up my skin significantly. I'm just dealing with scars right now!

Try african black soap! I've heard great reviews about it clearing up skin. I'm just started using it so I can't give my input yet but I haven't experienced anything bad.

My mom doesn't exactly want me on birth control but I believe it would help my skin and also lighten up my periods which would be helpful lol I've tried African black soap and that worked for a little bit but then I started breaking out again. My family thinks it could be because I eat lots of bread and just carbs in general. I don't know. I'm currently using cetaphil and it's not doing much for me. I've tried egg masks, oatmeal, diet changes, drinking water, Accutane, skin iD and proactive also epiduo and minocycline. Facial oils don't help and neither do cleansers. I noticed that I have a lot of little bumps under my skin, they're not exactly pimples. They're kind of white and show up more in natural lighting and I remember a few years ago I had them and the derm said they're like little cysts but I don't know what gets rid of them or if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Anything will help. My hair is long and it's starting to show up on my back and chest 😕
