This may be a silly question but..I have been told that when you get your hair cut up to your shoulders it flicks out. I know it will, but is it really that bad to a point that it's unmanageable? especially with thick hair?

It happened to me and I have thick hair. I wouldn't say it was unmanageable but it did annoy me sometimes.

Straightening it will make it not flick out, I have hair 3x thicker than a normal person and it works for me.

I used to have short hair, but I found it so hard to keep straight. my hair ends up looking like a birds nest lol. Do you use any products to keep it straight?

Unfortunately I don't know of any products that will keep it straight but I do know of one which didn't work for me. The John Freida 3 Day Straight spray didn't do anything for me and so I wouldn't recommend it.

Usually its only because its sitting on your shoulders. if your that worried I would get it either a little below or a litttle above. I don't thinks its unmanageable just takes some work to fix it like straightening it.

I agree with Megan. I would get it cut a little above or a little below. Straightening your hair every day can be damaging so I use Loreal 3 day straightening cream and it works alright. I still usually have to touch up a few pieces of hair in the morning, but the back of my hair stays pretty straight so I leave it alone.

When my hair was shorter even after I straightened it/styled it within like an hour it was back to flipping out again! ):

My hair is super thick and curly. when I got a pixie cut it was fine but now that I am growing it out its still above my shoulders and flip out and I hate it but I found that having my hair dresser thin it out helps a lot and using tresseme undone foam and sea salt spray then top it off with garnier de-constructed texture tease dry touch finish spray and scrunch it a few times through out it drying makes it look like I have awesome beach waves.. and as for straightening only chi straighteners work on my hair :-/
